Thinking in the study programme of my career (archaeology) and career it`s give me ambivalents feelings. They are think that I frankly love and others that I just hate with everything I have.
I like the atmosphere of the people of my career -the teachers and student- usually it`s very relaxed but in the last year or few years it had changed a bit, now they are more students that they ever where, most of them are crybabys and have broughts with them a lot of stress, they have changed some of the most relaxed and flexible -in terms of managing times- teachers in a monster of puntuality and inflexibility. It`s a bit sad but maybe I`m overreacting and it`s just a particular or two generations that are so, and with time things will be back.
If we think in the curruculum I like that we have common years with anthropology, in our context of work it happen that we not only work with dead contexts but with a living context, with "indeans" groups or local people, so our formation must have a high degree of social anthropology. Things that I don`t like about our subjects, it`s the focus of them, we have a lot`s of the subject prehistory, and I hate that, beginning with the name: there is not a thing called prehistory, it`s ridiculous, there is not a thing before history. Second Chile is a long country, and it`s fair that we see what had happen with all the zones and culture even if we later don`t work with them. But I think that the focus in the subject prehistory shouldn`t be the exposition of things that have happen but how the archaeologist have thought in the prehistory of that place what methods they have used, how they interpreted the data obtained and constructed, how to read an article, searching for the logic behind it.
The reason behind this is that one forget easily what have happen, and the studies go fast, so in a short time the information you have is outdated. When the focus is more related to the metodology, logic and how the data is constructed it`s better, it`s harder to forget, and even if you forget it you know how to read, how to identify it with ease and that is more useful.
Other think that I love about my career are the "terrains" or fieldwork, you don`t have many of them but they are a very good experience, with pratice it`s easier to learn, to understand what you were reading, and it prepare you with your future job.
